The Three Modes of Material Nature
Goodness, Passion and Ignorance the modes of material nature, discussed in the Chapter fourteen from the Bhagavad Gita. What is goodness? What is passion? What is ignorance? Are we actually stuck with either of them, or can we get away from the each of them. The modes are for the good / for the bad, how does it affect the Life cycle of the soul. Can a person lower him / herself to animal world? Or a person him / herself can attain the higher worlds? Discussions like these and what affects one in today life!
“The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Again I shall declare to you this supreme wisdom, the best of all knowledge, knowing which all the sages have attained the supreme perfection.” Basically people don’t get it when told nicely or once. It is really a pain at times to really go back again and again the same thing, so one should keep patience and if the other is not getting it. There is something wrong with the way you passing on the information. Let’s not blame thyself and be aware of the limitations of oneself!
Krishna Said: “By becoming fixed in this knowledge, one can attain to the transcendental nature like My own. This established, one is not born at the time of creation or disturbed at the time of dissolution.” Don’t take things too personally, there is more in you, everything is temporary and so are you. You are going to diminish and enlighten not by the cycle of birth and death but by learning the lessons; for which you have become earthly beings.
“It should be understood that all species of life, O son of Kunti, are made possible by birth in this material nature, and that I am the seek-giving father.” It is easy to gossip, take sides, stands and follow blindly however, know your source right! Don’t just pass on the baton because you were told too, but know that you are running for a cause, passing on the baton is a formality to complete the race.
What does the goodness, passion and ignorance mean in the material world?
“O son of Bharata, the mode of goodness conditions one to happiness, passion conditions one to fruitive action; and ignorance, covering one’s knowledge, binds one to madness.” Either of the modes will try to achieve supremacy over the other. However it is up to oneself what does he / she want from the life, the path to be followed. The end of following or choosing either of the paths is mentioned above. Where do I reach after following either of the paths?
“When one dies in the mode of goodness, he attains to the pure higher planets of the great sages.” When one dies in the mode of passion, he takes birth among those engages in fruitive activities, and when one dies in the mode of ignorance, he takes birth in the animal kingdom.” So the big question what is that one wants to attain and not need to attain; the spell of free is with us, a boon and disguise, pleasure and pain are only the outcome of the choice made by oneself. What happens when going through these modes?
“From the mode of goodness, real knowledge develops; from the mode of passion, greed develops; and from the mode of ignorance develop foolishness, madness and illusion.” It is contextual, conceptual but one thing is for sure these modes exists! “When the embodied being is able to transcend these mode associated with the material body, he can become free from birth, death, old age and their distresses and can enjoy nectar even in this life.” Well, well, well just because you were born in it, exposed to it does not mean you cannot progress, or have live in the same place. Know yourself, align yourself and nature, you will be able to enjoy your life too.
“Arjuna inquired: O my dear Lord, by which symptoms is one known who is transcendental to these three modes? What is his behaviour? And how does he transcend the modes of nature?” When you know you want to achieve something, there are these set of rules, follow the rules and you shall attain what you seek. Krishna Said “One who engages in full devotional service, unfailing in all circumstances, at once transcends the modes of material nature and this comes to the level of Brahman.” Growth hacking is possible, believe in the word magic and allow the magic to happen to you.
